Why this is the working pick

2021 Panini Prizm UFC #184 is the earliest Gane card that could be located in any source, licensed or otherwise, and it is the one eBay's catalogue sells as (RC). Cardboard Connection's checklist puts the product at 28 April 2021 and confirms Gane appears only once in it, at base #184 with no autograph. Everything else in his first year came later: Select on 30 July, Chronicles on 6 October, the Instant commemoratives in August. The competing claim is Chronicles Donruss Rated Rookie #28, which is the only Gane card with a printed Panini rookie logo, so collectors who go by logo rather than by date pick that one.

Panini's first UFC release of the licence era, out 28 April 2021, and the earliest Gane card located anywhere: he had fought four times in the UFC by then but the Topps licence had lapsed before he arrived, so nothing exists from 2019 or 2020. He sits at #184 in the horizontal half of the 200-card base set, four months before the Derrick Lewis win made him interim champion.

The dispute

No source consulted states outright which Gane card is 'the' rookie. eBay's catalogue marks the Prizm, Select and Chronicles cards all (RC); SportsCardsPro's rookie field reads 'No' on every Gane card checked, including Prizm #184; Panini's own printed rookie logo is on the Chronicles Rated Rookie alone. The Prizm pick here rests on release date plus seller consensus, not on a stated designation.

Commonly misidentified

Sellers list the Prizm #184 Silver, Scope and coloured parallels simply as 'the rookie', and Instant #28/#29 get tagged 'RC' because their low numbers look early - they are August 2021 commemoratives. TCDB, which would normally settle the RC flag, could not be reached.

eBay listings describe a 'Scope Prizm /99' version of #184; Cardboard Connection's parallel list for the product has Orange at /99 and does not name a serial-numbered Scope. The two may be the same card under different seller vocabulary.
