Why this is the rookie
2021 Panini Prizm UFC #184 is the earliest Gane card in existence and the one collectibles.com lists as his rookie card. Nothing predates it: Topps' UFC licence had lapsed before his August 2019 debut and Panini's first UFC product did not ship until 28 April 2021. The only other card with a rookie claim of its own is 2021 Panini Chronicles UFC Donruss Rated Rookies #28, which carries Panini's printed Rated Rookie badge but did not arrive until 6 October 2021, five months later. Collectibles.com flags both of them, along with Chronicles #202, as rookie cards, which is how the hobby usually treats a fighter's whole first year.
Panini's first UFC release of the licence era, out 28 April 2021, and the earliest Gane card located anywhere: he had fought four times in the UFC by then but the Topps licence had lapsed before he arrived, so nothing exists from 2019 or 2020. He sits at #184 in the horizontal half of the 200-card base set, four months before the Derrick Lewis win made him interim champion.
Sellers list the Prizm #184 Silver, Scope and coloured parallels simply as 'the rookie'; they are parallels of the same card. Panini Instant #28 and #29 get tagged 'RC' because their low numbers look early — they are print-to-order August 2021 commemoratives of the UFC 265 interim-title win. The only printed rookie badge he has is on 2021 Panini Chronicles UFC Donruss Rated Rookies #28, five months after Prizm; no independent database confirmation of an RC designation on Prizm #184 itself has been found beyond collectibles.com's register and eBay's catalogue flag.
Identifying it
- Base card #184 in the 200-card 2021 Panini Prizm UFC set, in the horizontal half of the checklist
- No RC logo — the 2021 Prizm UFC checklist uses no rookie column at all; the RC flag comes from collectibles.com and eBay's catalogue
- Parallel ladder runs Red /275, Blue /199, Purple /149, Orange /99 down to Gold /10, Octagon /8 and Black 1/1; an unnumbered Silver or Scope copy is a parallel, not the base
- Released 28 April 2021, the first product of Panini's UFC licence
What gets mistaken for it
| What you'll read | What's true |
|---|---|
| Gane has a Topps rookie card from his 2019 UFC debut. | Topps' UFC licence had ended before he debuted, and Panini's first UFC products did not arrive until 2021, so his first cards are all 2021 Panini. |

The evidence behind each
- 2021Earliest licensed card — Cardboard Connection's 2021 Panini Prizm UFC guide dates the product to 28 April 2021 and lists Gane in the base horizontal checklist at #184; Checklist Center's checklist for the same product confirms base #184 and shows him in no other subset. Collectibles.com's Ciryl Gane register shows 2021 as the earliest year of any card of him. Topps held the UFC licence when he debuted in August 2019 and issued nothing of him before the licence moved to Panini.
- 2021First MMA card — No non-MMA card of Gane appears in any checklist or database consulted, so his first MMA card and his first card of any kind are the same 28 April 2021 Prizm base card (Cardboard Connection, Checklist Center, collectibles.com).
- 2021First UFC card — Prizm UFC was the first release of Panini's UFC licence; Cardboard Connection and Checklist Center both place Gane in it at base #184.
- 2021First certified autograph — Cardboard Connection's 2021 Panini Select UFC guide dates the product to 30 July 2021 and lists Gane's Rookie Signatures #10 and Octagon Action Signatures #32, both /149. Checklist Center's 2021 Prizm UFC checklist shows Gane in no autograph subset of the earlier April product, so Select carries his first signature.
- 2021Recognized rookie card — Collectibles.com's Gane register marks '2021 Panini Prizm UFC #184 RC' and eBay's catalogue entry for the card carries the (RC) flag. No card of his carries a printed rookie logo except the later Chronicles Donruss Rated Rookies #28, and neither the Prizm nor the Select checklist uses an RC column at all.

Ciryl Gane's rookie card: 2021 Panini Prizm UFC #184 — Ciryl Gane.
2021 Panini Prizm UFC #184 is the earliest Gane card that could be located in any source, licensed or otherwise, and it is the one eBay's catalogue sells as (RC). Cardboard Connection's checklist puts the product at 28 April 2021 and confirms Gane appears only once in it, at base #184 with no autograph. Everything else in his first year came later: Select on 30 July, Chronicles on 6 October, the Instant commemoratives in August. The competing claim is Chronicles Donruss Rated Rookie #28, which is the only Gane card with a printed Panini rookie logo, so collectors who go by logo rather than by date pick that one.
