The rookie case
1996 BBM Pro Wrestling #103
The earliest Sakuraba card documented, and the only one any source calls a rookie. It was printed while he was a UWFi shoot-style wrestler working under Billy Robinson and Yoji Anjo, before the Gracie fights, before PRIDE, and roughly a year before he won the UFC Japan heavyweight tournament. It sits in a 361-card Japanese set alongside Ken Shamrock (#181) and Minoru Suzuki (#169), which is the company his early cardboard keeps.
Single-source. Only Cardbase (getcardbase.com) names 1996 BBM Pro Wrestling #103 and flags it as his rookie; it appears both on his player page and on that set's page, but no second, independent database was reachable to confirm the number. TCDB and PSA are not reachable, SportsCardsPro and PriceCharting have no BBM pro-wrestling data, and

Card history
Sakuraba's cardboard starts in Japanese pro-wrestling wax, not in MMA. BBM's 361-card 1996 Pro Wrestling set carried him at #103 while he was still a UWFi shoot-style undercard man working under Billy Robinson and Yoji Anjo — months after his first MMA bout, a year before he won the UFC Japan heavyweight tournament. Cardbase flags it as the one rookie among his cards and puts him in that set alongside Ken Shamrock at #181 and Minoru Suzuki at #169. No second checklist confirms the number, and Japanese sets of that era carried no rookie designation.
Everything that made him famous was printed only in Japan, and only by BBM. Royler, Royce, Renzo and Ryan Gracie all fell between 1999 and 2000, and the cards of those years are Pro Wrestling 1997 through 2002, the 201-card 1998 Sparkling Fighters set and the 2003 Weekly Pro Wrestling 20th Anniversary release. Card numbers for those issues are not catalogued anywhere reachable — the sets are named for him, the checklists are not. Topps had no UFC licence until 2008, so his peak simply went uncarded outside Japan.
PRIDE made one card set of its own, and the man who carried the promotion is a co-star on it. DSE's 2006 Pride FC, out 11 January 2006, has him twice, both times as half of a two-fighter bout card: #101 against Antônio Rogério Nogueira, from their Shockwave 2003 meeting, and #123 against Ikuhisa Minowa, the kimura win at Shockwave 2005 that had happened eleven days before the set shipped. He has no solo base card in it and no card in its signature subset at #127-#135.
His only cards of the 2010s are Bushiroad's New Japan-licensed King of Pro Wrestling issues — 2012 promos, Series 3 Invasion Attack, Series 6 Wrestle Kingdom 8, Series 12 Wrestle Kingdom 9 — a card game rather than a trading-card release, and again without catalogued numbers. Then in 2017 Leaf Originals Wrestling produced #A-KS1 in a 2014 Alternate Art Autograph subset, the only certified Sakuraba signature catalogued anywhere. It comes from an unlicensed wrestling product, its parallel colours and print runs are unrecorded, and it landed the same year the UFC put him in the Pioneer wing of its Hall of Fame without issuing a card of him.
That is where he still stands: no UFC-licensed card of any kind has been found for him. He is not on the 2010 Topps UFC Series 4 checklist, Pride and Glory insert included, and no Topps or Panini UFC product carries him — SportsCardsPro catalogues only two Sakuraba products in total, and both are the 2017 Leaf autograph and its variants. For the most famous Japanese fighter of his generation and a Hall of Famer, the whole North American hobby amounts to two bout cards from a Japanese PRIDE set.

Card eras
BBM's 361-card 1996 Pro Wrestling set carried him at #103 while he was a UWFi shoot-style undercard wrestler, months after his first MMA bout. Cardbase flags it as his only rookie card.
He won the UFC Japan heavyweight tournament in December 1997 and debuted in PRIDE against Vernon White in March 1998, and the only cards being made of him were BBM's — 1997 and 1998 Pro Wrestling plus the 201-card 1998 Sparkling Fighters set.
Royler, Royce, Renzo and Ryan Gracie all fell between 1999 and 2000, and Cardbase still shows only BBM issues through this run — Pro Wrestling 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, then the 2003 Weekly Pro Wrestling 20th Anniversary set. Topps had no UFC licence until 2008, so his peak went uncarded outside Japan.
DSE's 2006 Pride FC set gave him #101 against Antônio Rogério Nogueira and #123 against Ikuhisa Minowa, both two-fighter bout cards. #123 shows the Shockwave 2005 kimura win from 31 December 2005, eleven days before the set shipped and five months before he left PRIDE for Hero's.
His only cards of the 2010s are Bushiroad's New Japan-licensed King of Pro Wrestling issues — 2012 promos, Series 3 Invasion Attack, Series 6 Wrestle Kingdom 8 and Series 12 Wrestle Kingdom 9 — a card game rather than a trading-card release.
Leaf's Originals Wrestling gave him #A-KS1 in a 2014 Alternate Art Autograph subset, the only certified Sakuraba signature could be documented. He entered the UFC Hall of Fame's Pioneer wing the same year without Topps or Panini issuing a card of him.

Kazushi Sakuraba's rookie card: 1996 BBM Pro Wrestling #103 — Kazushi Sakuraba.
Cardbase is the only database reached that carries him at all, and it is explicit: 33 cards, of which one is flagged rookie, and the card it names is 1996 BBM Pro Wrestling #103. The date fits — he debuted for UWFi in August 1993 and had his first MMA bout in mid-1996, so a 1996 BBM Pro Wrestling card is the earliest licensed issue that could plausibly exist. It is a pro-wrestling card, not an MMA card, which is the same situation as several pre-Topps MMA legends.
