Chuck Liddell

Liddell's cardboard begins with a 2000 gum-promo card for the first UFC video game. The hobby rookie is still Topps' 2009 Round 1 #5, which shows his UFC 17 debut against Noe Hernandez. Round 2 #39 gave him his first solo UFC card later that year, but Liddell doesn't appear on TCDB's 2009 Topps autograph checklists, so early signatures come from Upper Deck, Leaf and the 2010 Topps UFC #FA-CL.

2009 Topps UFC Round 1 #5

Liddell's first card in a UFC-licensed Topps product (Round 1, released 23 February 2009 per TCDB). Like the rest of Round 1's fighter cards, it's a 'UFC Debut' card, showing his UFC 17 win over Noe Hernandez on 15 May 1998. TCDB flags it RC and the eBay catalogue lists it as (RC).

Where sources disagree

TCDB puts an RC flag on both Round 1 #5 and Round 2 #39. Cardboard Connection says none of his 2009 cards is an 'official' rookie.

Commonly misidentified

Sellers list Round 1 Silver /288 and Gold parallels as 'the rookie', although they are parallels of #5. Cardboard Connection's Round 2 review also names Liddell as a Round 2 autograph subject, but TCDB's Round 2 autograph checklists don't include him.

03

Card history

Liddell's cardboard goes back further than the UFC licence. TCDB lists a 2000 SEG Crave Entertainment UFC card (#7) and a 2007 Rafo Fighters Borci sticker (#92). Cardboard Connection dates his first mainstream cards to 2009 and notes that none of them is an 'official' rookie card, even though TCDB flags 2009 Topps UFC Round 1 #5, which shows his 1998 UFC debut against Noe Hernandez.

2009 and 2010 were his busiest card years. Topps' Round 2 (September 2009) gave him #39 with Onyx /188, Ruby /8 and Diamond 1/1 parallels. According to Cardboard Connection, Upper Deck produced his first certified autograph that same year. 2010 added the Topps UFC Series 4 autograph FA-CL (Onyx /88, Red /8, Diamond 1/1) and 2010 Leaf MMA, which has no UFC licence, where he signed a quad autograph with Rich Franklin, Randy Couture and Forrest Griffin.

Topps held the UFC licence from 2009 until Panini took over in 2021, starting with Prizm that April. Liddell's Panini cards that year include the Prizm Sensational Signatures autograph (#SS-CLD) and Select #88. Fanatics returned the licence to Topps in 2024, and that year's Topps Chrome UFC includes Liddell base #46 and a Hall of Fame autograph (#HFA-CLI).

Leaf MMA issued Liddell autographs in several inserts, and 2010 Topps UFC Series 4 gave him base #47a, the 'The Iceman' SP #47b and his first Topps autograph, #FA-CL.
