2006 Topps Allen & Ginter #310 — the earliest Couture card with a recognised RC designation (TCDB flags it RC). Confidence: uncertain, because a credible source disagrees.
The three candidates
- 1998 Culture House Heroes of Wrestling #8. An amateur-wrestling card from his Greco-Roman years. Cardboard Connection calls it his first card; Collectors Universe posters call it his rookie. It carries no RC designation, and the #8 comes from Cardboard Connection only.
- 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter #310. A non-SP base card in Topps' multi-sport Allen & Ginter. TCDB flags it RC and sellers list it as his rookie.
- 2009 Topps UFC Round 1 #4. His first UFC-licensed card, showing his UFC 13 win over Tony Halme. TCDB puts an RC flag on the card, but it already flags the 2006 Allen & Ginter for Couture, so this is his first UFC card, not his rookie.
Where the sources split
Cardboard Connection says Couture 'does not have an official rookie card'. TCDB flags 2006 Allen & Ginter #310 and doesn't list the 1998 card. Those are two credible references reaching different answers, which is why the rookie guide is marked as a working pick.
The 2009 Round 1 card is the one most often sold as 'the Couture rookie'. It is an important card — his first in a UFC-licensed product — but on neither source's reading is it his rookie.
