Why this is the rookie
Strickland has no card at all before 2022, so the only question is which of his five 2022 base cards is the rookie, and two independent sources give the same answer. MMA Rookies names 2022 Panini Prizm UFC #172 his True Rookie Card, and Collectibles.com's register flags it 'RC'. Release order agrees: Cardboard Connection dates Prizm to 25 March 2022, ahead of Donruss (6 May), Select (1 July), Chronicles (31 August) and Optic (21 December). Nothing credible names a different card.
Strickland's first card of any kind, released 25 March 2022 — eight years and one month after his UFC debut. Panini Prizm UFC was the earliest 2022 UFC release, which is why this is the card the market and MMA Rookies settle on as the true rookie rather than the Donruss, Select or Optic Rated Rookies that followed. Because Topps never made a Strickland card during its 2009-2020 UFC licence, there is nothing at all in front of it.
Identifying it
- Card #172 in the 200-card base set; Strickland is in the middleweight block
- 2022 Prizm UFC splits the base run into 100 horizontal and 100 vertical layouts — check which layout #172 uses before matching a raw scan to a parallel
- Base card is unserialled; a Silver Prizm exists with no serial, so base and Silver are told apart only by the refractive finish
- No printed RC logo — Panini's UFC base cards do not carry one, which is why the rookie question is settled by checklists rather than by the card itself

The evidence behind each
- 2022Earliest licensed card — Cardboard Connection's 2022 Panini Prizm UFC checklist carries '172 Sean Strickland - Middleweight' in the 200-card base set and dates the product 25 March 2022; MMA Rookies and Collectibles.com both begin his card history in 2022.
- 2022First MMA card — Same card — the earliest Strickland card identified, in a UFC-licensed Panini product.
- 2022First UFC card — Cardboard Connection checklist and release date; no earlier UFC-licensed Strickland card appears on any list consulted, despite his 2014 Octagon debut.
- 2022First certified autograph — The milestone previously named 2022 Donruss UFC Signature Series #6, which does not hold: Cardboard Connection's Signature Series checklist runs 1–100 and #6 is Belal Muhammad, with no Sean Strickland anywhere on it. Strickland is also absent from every autograph checklist in 2022 Panini Prizm UFC and 2022 Panini Select UFC. That leaves the earliest signed Strickland card in the archive as Immaculate Collection #103, a patch-and-signature card numbered to 99, with the Donruss Optic Rated Rookie Signatures version of #111 (21 December 2022) as the other candidate. Neither has a published release date, so the order between them has no independent database confirmation.
- 2022Recognized rookie card — MMA Rookies names it his True Rookie Card; Collectibles.com's register lists '2022 Panini Prizm UFC #172 RC Sean Strickland' as one of only two RC-flagged Strickland cards; Cardboard Connection's release dates make it the first of his five 2022 base cards.

Sean Strickland's rookie card: 2022 Panini Prizm UFC #172 — Sean Strickland.
Strickland has no card before 2022, so the rookie question is only about which of five 2022 base cards wins. MMA Rookies explicitly names '2022 Panini Prizm UFC #172' his True Rookie Card and files Donruss #206, Select #11, Chronicles #76 and Optic #111 beneath it as other rookies. Collectibles.com's register carries only two RC-flagged Strickland cards, Prizm #172 and Donruss #206. Release order settles the tie the same way: Cardboard Connection dates Prizm UFC to 25 March 2022 and Donruss UFC to 6 May 2022, so #172 is both the designated true rookie and the earliest.
2022 Panini Prizm UFC #172 — Sean Strickland.
Whether #172 or one of the other four 2022 base cards is 'the' rookie. MMA Rookies picks #172 and it is also the earliest by release date (25 March 2022 vs 6 May 2022 for Donruss), but eBay and grader labels market the Select #11, Donruss #206, Optic #111 and Chronicles #76 cards as 'Rookie RC' too. Separately, the per-card parallel list above is taken from the set-level parallel run published by Cardboard Connection; only the Silver, Teal and Blue Shimmer FOTL versions of #172 were seen individually.
