Tito Ortiz

Ortiz is an odd case. He had a 2000 gum-promo card as UFC champion, but when Topps launched UFC cards in 2009 he appeared only as Patrick Cote's opponent on Round 1 #18. A Beckett item from that year noted he had 'zero certified autographs'. His first solo UFC-licensed card and first Topps auto didn't arrive until 2010 Series 4 (#78a, #FA-TO).

His first card in a UFC-licensed product, though he's the opponent: the card shows Patrick Cote's UFC 50 debut against Ortiz (22 October 2004). A Beckett item quoted on the Collectors Universe forum says that in 2009 all of Ortiz's trading cards came from Round 1, 'and zero certified autographs'.

Commonly misidentified

The 2002 Rookie Review (unlicensed) #12 is sold as a 'Tito Ortiz UFC RC' by marketplace sellers. Round 1 #18 is sometimes described as his UFC debut card, but it shows Patrick Cote's debut at UFC 50. A forum post places his 2010 solo card and autograph in 'Topps Main Event'; TCDB lists them in 2010 Topps UFC Series 4.

2009 Topps UFC Round 1 #18 is the earliest Ortiz card with a recognised RC designation (TCDB's RC flag, shared with Patrick Cote on this dual card). It's also his first card in a UFC-licensed product. A 2009 Beckett item quoted on Collectors Universe said that all of his trading cards then came from 2009 Round 1. This is the working pick, with a caveat: he is the secondary subject, and the card shows Cote's debut, not his. His first solo UFC card is 2010 Topps UFC #78a.
