Why this is the rookie
TCDB lists no Volkanovski cards before 2019. The only RC-flagged card in his 2019 listing is 2019 Topps UFC Knockout #87, which prints an octagon RC badge on the front. Cardboard Connection's checklist confirms #87 in the 100-card set released May 8, 2019. His only other 2019 card is the unflagged UFC Knockout Chrome insert UFCK-AV in 2019 Topps Chrome UFC.
Volkanovski's first licensed trading card, released May 8, 2019 (Cardboard Connection, TCDB), about seven months before he took the featherweight title from Max Holloway at UFC 245. It is the only RC-flagged card TCDB lists for him.
His 2021 Panini Prizm base is sometimes sold as a rookie. The 2019 Chrome insert is sometimes sold as a 'Chrome rookie', but he has no 2019 Chrome base card.
