Why this card matters
Henderson turned professional in June 1997 and had already won the UFC 17 middleweight tournament, fought in PRIDE for five years and taken the PRIDE welterweight belt off Murilo Bustamante before a single licensed card of him existed. This Japanese-issue Pride FC card is that card. It is also the honest answer to a common assumption: his cardboard does not start with Topps, it starts with a set sold in packs in Japan that most US collectors have never opened.

- Base set of 142 cards; Cardbase counts 583 cards across all variations
- Variations run Gold Foil Signature (141 cards), Silver Foil Signature (141) and Holographic (140) — a foil facsimile signature across the photo is the quickest tell
- Ten promo cards numbered PR-1 to PR-10 were not packed out: per WorthPoint they went only to large-volume dealers and industry insiders in Japan
- Set is PRIDE-licensed and Japanese-issued; checklist is heavy with DSE-era names (Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, Mark Hunt, Josh Barnett)
| Dan Henderson's rookie card is the 2009 Topps UFC Round 1 or Round 2 card. | Those are his first UFC-licensed cards. The 2006 Japanese Pride FC issue precedes them by three years, and Collectibles.com dates his rookie year to 2006. |
Disputed
Card number is not settled. Collectibles.com (Gold Foil Signature) and Cardbase both say #132; Sports Card Investor's set page lists 'Dan Henderson 2006 Pride FC #35 Base'. Both could be correct if he has more than one card in the 142-card base set — Cardbase also shows a #121 Henderson / Bustamante card — but no reachable checklist resolves it. TCDB has the full checklist and is not reachable.
